Brisbane Racing Club To Meet With Sky Racing Execs Over Perceived Snub

Brisbane Racing Club officials are set to meet with Sky Racing execs on Friday "in what will be a heated discussion on a perceived snub for Queensland races," according to Nathan Exelby of the Brisbane COURIER-MAIL. After an "outcry" from Queensland punters over the treatment of the state's premier meeting on Stradbroke Day, "the situation worsened on Saturday when the Doomben meeting was not even given a full preview on Sky's premium Thoroughbred Central channel." The "mystery of the snub deepens when you consider Sky does not currently have to cater for any content from Victorian meetings" due to a dispute over vision rights. The "deposing of Queensland metropolitan races to an also-ran" coincided with Racing NSW's decision to sign with Sky after TVN was disbanded. BRC officials "are dismayed at what they see as a snub, particularly after signing with Sky at a time when the broadcaster had been abandoned" by both Victoria and NSW. One official said, "The goodwill is non-existent and we're just getting shunted further and further down the line as we go along" (COURIER-MAIL, 6/29).
