CBF President Del Nero's Real Estate Assets Increase By 175% In Three Years

Brazilian Football Federation President Marco Polo Del Nero's involvement with the CBF, beginning in '12, coincides with his "unpublished period of economic prosperity," according to Maisonnave & Ribas of FOLHA DE SÃO PAULO. Since March '12, during former CBF President José Maria Marin's term, Del Nero has "reported real estate asset development of at least 175%," concerning properties registered in his name in Rio de Janeiro and in the state of São Paulo. During the last three years, Del Nero "acquired two luxury properties in Rio and another in São Paulo." Since the purchase of the first property in June '12, Del Nero has spent an average of R$158,000 ($51,000) monthly on properties. An investigation by the FBI "indicates that Marin split bribes" linked to Copa do Brasil broadcasting rights with Del Nero (FOLHA DE SÃO PAULO, 6/25). INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL's Samindra Kunti reported Del Nero's real estate asset growth has "increased speculation and suspicion" around Del Nero about management of the CBF and its finances. His real estate property, both in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, was worth €930,000, now it's valued at €2.5M ($2.8M). Since becoming CBF president, Del Nero earns around €58,000 ($65,230) through various salaries. He has "stated that he is in full compliance with the law" (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 6/29).
