Barcelona Presidential Candidate Jordi Farré Says No Need For Qatar Airways

Barcelona presidential candidate Jordi Farré has said that next week he will announce the name of the company prepared to pay €40M ($44M) to put its name on the club's training shirt, according to MARCA. He explained that the club does not need Qatar Airways to advertise on its shirts and that he "intends to replace it with the word 'Catalunya.'" Another of the "foundations of his programme is to replace Nike" with Barcelona's own brand. That side of the business is worth €110M ($121M). He said, "Nike's turnover from Barça sportswear totals €180 million ($198M). The distribution network equates to 25-30 percent of that and the American multinational pays the club €30 million ($33M). The figures speak for themselves; we're talking about a €110 million business. It's a model that Borussia Dortmund is also looking into" (MARCA, 6/28).
