League Notes: AIBA Asks Boxing India To Wait Before Resuming Functions

The Int'l Boxing Federation (AIBA) has asked Boxing India to "wait for a review from its recently appointed ad-hoc committee before it can pursue any matter related to the administration of the sport in India." AIBA also "noted with disappointment that even after its recognition to BI, it failed to meet its goals and a vote of no confidence was passed" against the elected representatives (DECCAN HERALD, 6/25). ... In another sign of Australian Football League clubs' "growing concern about gambling," Carlton pulled some of its coaches out of a player punting syndicate at the club, which has been "wound back." Carlton Head of Football Andrew McKay "discouraged the coaches from being part of the informal 'punters' club' for betting on racehorses" at the outset of the '15 season, a suggestion the coaches were only "too willing to accept" (THE AGE, 6/25). ... The NBA will spend 10M yuan ($1.6M) "in financing construction and refurbishing of public basketball courts in Chinese cities." The pledge "will help expand the existing partnership between NBA China and the Chinese Ministry of Education, aiming to spread basketball education in China and advance youth development in Chinese schools" (XINHUA, 6/24). ... National Rugby League side Manly player Kieran Foran "will consider taking legal action against Parramatta" if the parties can not come to terms over his transfer. Manly is "desperate to salvage the deal" and is prepared to guarantee all of his A$4.8M ($3.7M) offer either directly in the salary cap or as part of the club's marquee player allowance (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 6/25).
