Facility Notes: Hyundai Heavy Launches Korean Low-Carbon Hotel

Hyundai Heavy Industries is opening a new hotel in Gangneung, Gangwon Province, aiming to "become a landmark" for the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics. The SEAMARQ hotel, to be launched on Friday, is designed by N.Y.-based architect Richard Meier and built by Hyundai Engineering & Construction. The environmentally friendly building "uses solar energy and geothermal heat to reduce environmental damage" (KOREA HERALD, 6/25). ... Five arenas in Rio de Janeiro's Olympic Park are "receiving access ramps." The installations "began this month" and will "guarantee public access to competition locations, especially to the disabled." In addition to the ramps, other areas with "accessibility have also been noticed," including individual bathrooms with disability access (GLOBO ESPORTE, 6/24).
