Chinese Women's Team To Receive Highest Bonus Yet Of $160,000

China will "reward its women's football team with the 'highest ever' bonus" after qualifying for the quarterfinals of the World Cup in Canada, according to Nimfa May Idea of YIBADA. Chinese FA VP Yu Hongchen said that the players will "receive a whopping" 1M yuan ($160,000). The move was "created to heighten popularity of football among women in China," where players on the national team earn about 300 yuan ($48) every month. It was "way below" the national average of 4,100 yuan ($660). Yu: "The World Cup bonus will be the highest in women's national team history." Still, the bonus was "far less than the amount given to China's men football team" (YIBADA, 6/24).
