One Million Euro 2016 Tickets Go On Sale For $30-$1,000; UEFA Unveils Special Tickets

Tickets for the 2016 European Championships have gone on sale on Wednesday, one year to the day of the start of the tournament, according to Tom Sheen of the London INDEPENDENT. The cheapest tickets for the group stage and Round 16 are available at just €25 ($28), with UEFA "promising that 250,000 tickets will be sold at that price." UEFA also stated that 85% of games at the competition will "have tickets available at the cheapest price." The opening game of the tournament -- in which France will play -- will be "more expensive" than the semifinal. The prices for the latter stages incrementally increase, with category 4 seats available at €45 ($50) for the quarterfinal, €65 ($74) for the semifinal and €85 ($96) for the final. The most expensive tickets on sale are for the opening game -- €595 ($673) and for the final €895 ($1,013); VAT of 5.5% is already "included in all ticket prices" (INDEPENDENT, 6/10). In London, Bezants & Ridge reported the ticket portal opened for registrations in May but now fans have until July 10 to "register which particular tickets they want." They will "find out whether they have been successful" by Aug. 15. There are 1 million tickets that went on sale for the tournament on Wednesday. Fans can also "purchase 'Destination Tickets' which will allow supporters to bag tickets to two games in one host city." UEFA also announced last month that it will "donate 20,000 tickets to deprived children in France while unveiling a selection of other packages including the chance for fans to apply to follow their country throughout the tournament" (DAILY MAIL, 6/10).
