Australian Football League Takes No Action Over Mick Malthouse Claim About Eddie Betts

The Australian Football League said that "it would take no action against Adelaide or forward Eddie Betts following an investigation into explosive comments on Tuesday by former Carlton coach Mick Malthouse," according to Greg Denham of THE AUSTRALIAN. Malthouse claimed that Betts "had signed with his second club well in advance of the 2013 free agency period." AFL General Counsel Andrew Dillon said that "the league had interviewed 14 people, including officials from four clubs and two registered player agents." Documentation from a number of parties was also examined before Dillon said that "he was satisfied no breach of the rules occurred." The AFL said that Betts explored options at other clubs for potential consideration, "but came to no binding agreement" before the '13 free agency period (THE AUSTRALIAN, 5/29).
