Media Notes: Canal+ To Provide Exclusive Coverage In Spain Of Copa América

Canal+ announced on Wednesday that it will provide live and exclusive coverage in Spain of the Copa América, which will be played in Chile from June 11-July 4. All games will be carried on the Canal+Liga channel, while the final will also be broadcast on Canal+1. Canal+ has also acquired the rights to the Copa América Centenario 2016, the "special edition to commemorate 100 years of the tournament, which will be held in the U.S. next year" (AS, 5/20). ... Liga MX side Atlas "is expected to change broadcasters for next season, moving to TV Azteca, the group that owns the club." Cruz Azul will be carried by Televisa, which "will give the broadcaster the rights to Mexico's four top clubs, as it already carries Pumas, América and Chivas." Televisa will have a total of nine teams next season, while TV Azteca will have seven (LA AFICIÓN, 5/21). ... Sky Sports and Matchroom Sport extended their exclusive U.K. and Ireland broadcast partnership until '21 (Sky Sports). ... German media company Constantin Medien reported that its sports segment increased its sales by 6.3% to €35.5M in the first quarter '15. The positive trend in market shares of free-TV broadcaster Sport1 continued. In its target group of males 14-49, Sport1 increased its market share from 1.3% in Q1 '14 to 1.5% in Q1 '15. In the sports and event-marketing segment, with Swiss marketing company TEAM, sales stood at €10.5M in the first quarter, slightly above the prior year's level (Q1 '14: €10.1M) (Constantin Medien).
