Arena Corinthians Yet To Reach Full Revenue, Multipurpose Potential

The main source of revenue from the Arena Corinthians "is still collected from games," while the concept of a multipurpose arena "continues only on paper," according to Leite & Marques of ESTADÃO. The post-World Cup construction has "diminished the sale of stadium boxes, personal chairs and the total use of the West building, which was dubbed as the 'shopping center.'" The stadium's naming rights, which "would be another important source" of revenue, still "has not been negotiated." However, increasing the stadium's revenue "is necessary because as of July the club will need to make the first monthly payment" of a R$400M ($132.7M) loan from the Brazilian National Economic & Social Development Bank (BNDES). During the stadium's conception, it was forecast that only 20% of revenue "would come from the box office." Former Brasileiro side Corinthians Dir of Marketing & VP Luis Paulo Rosenberg said, "The stadium isn't ready to generate revenue in its maximum capacity. The club is suffering losses" (ESTADÃO, 5/18).
