New Stadiums Generate Profit, Large Crowds For Brazilian State Championship Finals

All 13 Brasileiro state football championships finals "saw high revenues and large audiences, especially in the newer arenas," according to Duda Lopes of MAQUINA DO ESPORTE. Considering that all 13 matches happened in stadiums that were "all built in this decade," the finals generated a total of R$18.9M ($6.1M) in box office revenue alone and attracted 410,000 fans. Average attendance at each of the Série A matches "was at least 46,000 people," with the average revenue totaling R$2.7M ($878,500). São Paulo's and Rio de Janeiro's state championship finals "have the best numbers." No club "collected as much" as Brasileiro side Palmeiras, which profited R$4M ($1.3M). On the other hand, Maracanã stadium had the largest audience of 66,000 people for the match between Botafogo and Vasco (MAQUINA DO ESPORTE, 5/4).
