WADA In Process Of Accrediting Brazilian Doping Control Lab In Time For 2016 Games

Brazilian anti-doping laboratory Ladetec was unaccredited by WADA in '12; however, this scenario "could change" in about two weeks and in time for the 2016 Olympic Games, according to Bruno Doro of UOL. The Brazilian Doping Control Laboratory (LBCD), which replaced Ladetec, "is in the final stage of accreditation." An exec secretary of the Brazilian Sports Ministry said, "We've already gone through previous stages of accreditation. We already have the authorization to conduct blood tests and all the auditing has been done. We are waiting until May 13 to receive confirmation of total accreditation." WADA "confirmed that the accreditation process" for LBCD is ongoing. In a statement, WADA said, "We're confident that the process will be concluded in time for the [Olympic] Games" (UOL, 5/2).
