John Brown Urges Scottish FA To Pass Dave King; Rangers, Mike Ashley Meeting 'Amicable'

Former Scottish Championship side Rangers defender John Brown has called on the Scottish FA to "pass Dave King as fit and proper," according to the Scotland DAILY RECORD. Hampden chiefs are "deliberating" whether to let the South Africa-based businessman on to the Ibrox club's board. Scottish FA CEO Stewart Regan insisted last week that King "faces a 'challenge' to be passed but Brown is adamant they should not block his path to the chairmanship." Brown: "Dave has got Rangers at heart. He's got money to put into the club -- Rangers need that money. Whatever happens at the SFA happens. But Dave would be good for Rangers, especially with the guys he has brought with him, such as the Three Bears, and the money he will generate for the club" (DAILY RECORD, 4/22). The BBC's Chris McLaughlin reported the first meeting between the new Rangers regime and Newcastle Owner Mike Ashley has been "described as 'amicable' by a source close to the board." Board members, including Interim Chair Paul Murray, met with the retail tycoon on Wednesday to "discuss his continuing influence at Ibrox" (BBC, 4/22).
