Brasileiro Side Cruzeiro Reports Third Consecutive Deficit Of R$40M For '14

Similar to the past couple of seasons, Brasileiro side Cruzeiro "had a deficit last year" totaling between R$35M and R$40M, according to Marco Antônio Astoni of GLOBO ESPORTE. In '13, the club's deficit totaled R$22M and in '12, it was R$31M. The club's '14 revenue, however, was more than R$210M, "an increase of more than 10% in relation to" the R$188M revenue of '13. The main reason for the revenue boost "was the increase in members." Nearly 70,000 members generated R$40M "for the club's coffers" in '14, right behind TV rights, the club's largest source of revenue, at R$100M. However, the costs "also followed" revenue's increase trend. The largest cost for the club "was, obviously, football." Player salaries were nearly R$12M "per month," totaling R$156M. The sale of players Lucas Silva, Éverton Ribeiro and Ricardo Goulart, though, "helped to balance the club's accounts." However, those sales "will only be accounted for" during the '15 fiscal year (GLOBO ESPORTE, 4/23).
