Borussia Mönchengladbach Reports Record Revenue Of €130M For '14

Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach reported a record revenue of €130M for '14, according to Hornung & Krümpelmann of BILD. The financial numbers, which were unveiled at the annual general meeting, also showed the club made a profit of €30M and has a capital of €40M. The club's players benefited from its financial success as payroll increased to €50M. Gladbach Finance Dir Stephan Schippers: "We very much bet on performance-based contracts. The Europa League qualification was beneficial for the players. We are paying more -- but we are also earning more due to the on-field success." The club, however, "is not satisfied and already has plans for a new revenue stream in the form of a hotel." The six-floor building will have a direct connection to the Borussia Park stadium and will also be the home of a club museum along with a rehab facility. Schippers: "We are ready to go. We've already reached an agreement with our hotel partner Lindner. We expect to get the construction permit by Christmas. After that we will launch a tender. We expect the hotel to be done by the end of 2017" (BILD, 4/20).
