Brasileiro Side Portuguesa Board Members Pool $330,000 To Save Stadium

Fearing the loss of Canindé stadium and "pinned down" by debt, Brasileiro Série C side Portuguesa board members came together and pooled R$1M ($330,000) to "contract a lawyer who will reverse the auction" of the stadium, according to ESTADÃO. Last week, São Paulo Judge Maurício Marchetti ordered that "42,000 square meters of the stadium's land should go to auction this season." Despite the collected funds, Portuguesa "has not yet confirmed how it will fight in court against the pawn" of Canindé. The club "carries a debt" that totals R$47.3M ($15.6M) (ESTADÃO, 4/20).
