League Championship side Blackpool fans have raised more than £20,000 ($30,000) in three days "for a pensioner who must pay damages to the club after being threatened with court action over allegations he made on Facebook about the Oyston family."
Frank Knight, 67, made comments online about Blackpool Chair Karl Oyston and Owner Owen Oyston, but "was asked to apologise and pay a five-figure sum to prevent the matter from going to court."
Fellow Blackpool fans "set up a fundraising campaign for Knight to help him with the expenses and they reached their target within three days" (London GUARDIAN, 4/20). ... Norway’s chances of winning the women’s World Cup "are being hampered by a problem with their new kit." Players were "looking forward to wearing the strip made by Nike." But Nike "has not yet produced a strip designed for the female figure and the players were provided with what were described as 'unisex' tops." Norway captain Trine Rønning: "We know they have done their best and that they haven’t had much time but it is a bit unfortunate that we should walk around with strips that look like tents" (REUTERS, 4/20). ... The opening ceremony will officially kick-off the competition and will feature over 200 performers (FIFA).
