Int'l Swimming Federation FINA Publishes Members' Salary Figures Following IOC Lead

The World Swimming Federation (FINA) on Friday "published financial compensation details," becoming the first int'l sport body to follow the lead of the IOC earlier this month, according to Karolos Grohmann of REUTERS. Switzerland-based FINA said that top officers, including the president, "were volunteers and took no salary" but did receive a $400 per diem when traveling in business class this year. FINA said that "its office currently employed 32 people, including 11 part-time staff, but did not say how many days of travel had been registered for the previous year." The IOC earlier this month "published its own compensation policy for the first time following a proposal from its ethics commission to increase transparency within the organization." The IOC president, who also does not get a salary, is paid a flat annual amount of €225,000 ($243,540) to cover his expenses. FIFA and UEFA "have staunchly refused to publish the salaries and bonuses of top staff including under-fire FIFA President Sepp Blatter, also an IOC member" (REUTERS, 4/17).
