Havas Sports & Entertainment has appointed FREDDA HURWITZ as global chief strategy officer and THIAGO BERSOU as global planning director. Hurwitz is currently global VP of strategic planning, marketing and communications at the brand engagement network. In her new role she will "oversee the development and execution of all global strategic initiatives and key global pitches," along with her current responsibilities leading new business development, marketing and communications. Bersou joins the agency from Aurora Media Worldwide, where he was head of brand content. He "has more than 14 years experience" with both the agency and client sides. Bersou will "help lead on global pitches, supporting the planning process and the development of creative tools and processes" (EVENT MAGAZINE, 3/24). ... Brasileiro side Paraná President RUBENS BOHLEN "will announce resignation" from his presidency on Tuesday. Bohlen "confessed [his plans for resignation] to those close to him in the club" but has not yet confirmed (TERRA, 3/24).

COACHES/MANAGERS: Atlético Madrid coach DIEGO SIMEONE has "signed a contract extension" that will keep him at the club until '20. Simeone, 44, has led Atlético to a "host of trophies since becoming coach" in '11, including last season's La Liga title and the 2012 Europa League crown (BBC, 3/24). ... GIOVANNI VAN BRONCKHORST has been "confirmed" as Dutch Eredivisie side Feyenoord's new manager, starting in the summer. The 40-year-old former Scottish Championship side Rangers and Arsenal player is currently assistant to coach FRED RUTTEN, who "will leave the Dutch club" at the end of the season. He will "sign a two-year contract as Feyenoord manager" (BBC, 3/23). ... Cricket Australia announced Tuesday that former Queensland and Victoria cricketer MATTHEW MOTT has been appointed as head coach of the Southern Stars for the next three years. Mott, who has broad coaching experience in Australia, England and India, will commence his role with the team on March 30, as he begins to prepare the side for the 2015 Women's Ashes Series in the U.K. (Cricket Australia). ... One day after Brasileiro side Fluminense announced its sacking of coach CRISTÓVÃO BORGES, the club announced RICARDO DRUBSCKY would "lead the team." Drubscky met with President PETER SIEMSEN, VP MÁRIO BITTENCOURT and Exec Dir FERNANDO SIMONE on Monday to "draw up a contract until the end of 2015" (GLOBO ESPORTE, 3/24).
