Spanish Football League Clubs Expected To Decide Whether They Will Strike On April 19

The Spanish Football League (LFP) is expected to decide on Wednesday whether it will "strike on April 19," according to Juan Jiménez of AS. This is reportedly the date "when the LFP is considering stopping play in La Liga and the Spanish second division." The reason "is the delay in the approval of the Real Decreto that would require the centralized sale of TV rights." LFP President Javier Tebas "has by his side the modest clubs, which feel 'defrauded' by something that has been 'sold' for a long time but has still not seen the light." The LFP's top clubs also want the law approved "as soon as possible, but are more reluctant to go on strike." Those clubs believe that "the image of Spanish football is being damaged," and a strike "would not be good news." They would prefer "not to make too much noise, but this is not the thought of Tebas" (AS, 3/24).
