Brazil Will Host Canoe Slalom And Canoe Freestyle World Championships in '17, '18

Brazil was chosen to host the 2018 Canoe Slalom World Championship and the 2017 Canoe Freestyle World Championship, along with one phase of the Canoe Freestyle World Cup in Oct. '16. All events will take place at the Olympic Canal at the Deodoro Olympic Park in Rio de Janeiro. Brazilian Canoeing Federation (CBCa) President João Tomasini Schwertner said, "It's already an Olympic legacy. The fact that we have a Rio-quality canal allowed us to win the dispute [over hosting the Championships] with Kraków, in Poland." The Olympic Canal will have a permanent course that is 280m long and stands can hold up to 8,000 people. Schwertner added, "Our work is to continue to grow and use the results from Rio 2016 to amplify our foundation" (Ministério do Esporte).
