Olympic Notes: Construction Of Tokyo's 2020 Olympic Stadium To Start In October

Demolition of Tokyo's old National Stadium "will be completed by September and construction of the new main stadium for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics will start in October." The new 80,000-seat stadium "is slated to host the opening and final of the Rugby World Cup in 2019" (AP, 3/5). ... Controversy over the Indonesian National Sports Committee’s illegal use of the five Olympic rings "appeared to be nearing an end on Wednesday after the Central Jakarta Commercial Court ruled that the sports body, also known as KONI, must drop the rings from its logo." The verdict "answers long-contested pleas by the Indonesia Olympic Committee (KOI), which filed suit in January to bar KONI from infringing its trademark." The controversy "is one of many ongoing spats between the two national sports bodies" (JAKARTA GLOBE, 3/5).
