FIGC Reveals 'Plan' To Save Serie A Side Parma; Implementation Could Be Difficult

The details of Italian Football Federation (FIGC) President Carlo Tavecchio’s "'plan' to save Parma have been revealed, but it may prove difficult to implement," according to FOOTBALL ITALIA. Tavecchio said that "a scheme was in place to ensure that the Ducali finish the season." According the Corriere dello Sport, the plan "has three main elements." The first "is that funds will be raised from the other Serie A clubs in order to pay the Emilian side’s costs for the rest of the season." In addition, the local authority "will be asked to cover the costs of hosting matches at Stadio Tardini, and of course there would need to be an agreement with the players." It is believed the implementation of these measures "would prove difficult from a legal standpoint, as there is unease about handing over money to current President Giampietro Manenti" (FOOTBALL ITALIA, 3/5). In a separate piece FOOTBALL ITALIA reported all Serie A games last weekend "started 15 minutes late due to a protest from the AIC (Players’ Association) over the fact nobody at Parma has been paid since July." Italian third division Lega Pro President Mario Macalli: "It’s hypocritical and the players should be ashamed of themselves. They drive off from the Collecchio training ground with 22-meter-long Ferraris... If they put in €5,000 per head, they’d solve many of the problems" (FOOTBALL ITALIA, 3/4). FOOTBALL ITALIA also reported Parma Dir General Pietro Leonardi announced his resignation "due to on-going health issues." Leonardi "was on the club board through all three owners" -- Tommaso Ghirardi, Rezart Taci and Manenti. He has been hospitalized twice in recent weeks, including a spell at a clinic specializing in "depression and anxiety attacks" (FOOTBALL ITALIA, 3/4).
