Media Notes: India-Pakistan Cricket World Cup Match Records 288 Million Viewers

The "most anticipated" clash of the Int'l Cricket Council Cricket World Cup 2015 "created Indian television history" as 288 million viewers (TAM data CS4+ extrapolated to the universe using a standard conversion factor) tuned in to watch India take on Pakistan on Feb. 15. The game "was the most watched television event in India in the last four years" since the finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 (INDIAN TELEVISION, 2/26). ... Music label Universal Music India in association with Ten Sports Network "has launched a song that celebrates cricket, titled Heroes (We Could Be)." The original song of the same name by Grammy-nominated Swedish DJ/producer Alesso "is a global hit." The Indian version "has been sung by Kanika Kapoor" (INDIAN TELEVISION, 2/26). ... Journalists responsible for the Sunday Times FIFA Files investigation and Private Eye’s reporting on a corrupt contract between the U.K. and Saudi governments "have shared the 2014 Paul Foot award for investigative and campaigning journalism." Sunday Times’s Insight team editor Jonathan Calvert and assistant editor attached to the Insight Team, Heidi Blake, "analysed hundreds of millions of documents leaked by a whistleblower" from FIFA. The awards, "founded by Private Eye and the Guardian in memory of campaigning journalist Paul Foot," were presented Wednesday night at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts by Private Eye editor Ian Hislop (London GUARDIAN, 2/26).
