Bundesliga Reportedly Increases Income From Betting Rights To $17M Annually

The German Football League (DFL) "has increased its income from betting rights," according to the SID. DFL Sports Enterprises, the Bundesliga's commercial arm, "has reportedly fivefold its income" from live broadcasts of Bundesliga games in connection with betting offers to €15M ($17M) annually between '15-16 and '16-17. The league's global partner for betting and streaming rights "continues to be Munich-based agency the sportsman media group." The rights package added around 20 new countries. Excluded from the rights are Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, San Marino and the Vatican. The rights "give rights holders the opportunity to show live broadcasts of league games at sports-betting venues and on online betting platforms for subscribers" (SID, 2/26).
