Franchise Notes: Swansea City To Address Director's Insult Aimed At Van Gaal

EPL side Swansea City has distanced itself from Dir John van Zwenden, with Chair Huw Jenkins stating he will be "dealt with internally and appropriately" if found to have damaged the club after reportedly branding ManU Manager Louis van Gaal "an arrogant bastard." On Tuesday afternoon Jenkins issued a statement that said, "We are aware of the comments and we are currently dealing with the matter" (London GUARDIAN, 2/24). ... Scottish Professional Football League CEO Neil Doncaster hinted that Scottish Championship side Rangers will "escape punishment for fans' sectarian chants." The chants, heard during the match against Raith Rovers on Friday, "made up part of the match delegate's report." Doncaster said that if clubs can "prove they did everything possible to prevent such singing, no action will be taken" (BBC, 2/24). ... EPL side West Ham is "ready to issue lifetime bans to any fans found guilty of anti-Semitic abuse after Kick It Out contacted police" over a video that appeared to show a group of their fans "racially taunting Tottenham Hotspur supporters on the way to Sunday's London derby." Tottenham immediately issued a statement branding the anti-Semitic chanting as "vile" and calling for "tough action" to be taken (London TELEGRAPH, 2/23).
