League Notes: Ferrari Team Principal Says F1 Needs A 'Real Revolution' By 2017

Ferrari Team Principal Maurizio Arrivabene said that F1 "needs to go through a 'real revolution' by 2017 with cars making the sort of noise that heavy metal rock fans would appreciate." The principal, who took over the team in November, said that "the show needed to be more spectacular to win back fans who had fallen out of love with Formula One." Arrivabene, who has a marketing background and arrived from team sponsor Philip Morris, "agreed with former triple champion and Mercedes non-executive chairman Niki Lauda that big changes had to be made." Arrivabene: "I don't think a simple evolution is enough in this case. Instead, a real revolution is called for with significant and radical changes" (REUTERS, 1/24). ... Kontinental Hockey League President Dmitry Chernyshenko said that "he wants to slash its salary cap as clubs struggle financially in Russia's economic crisis." Chernyshenko said that he wants to cut the 1.1B ruble ($17M) salary cap by 50M rubles a year each season until '17-18 (AP, 1/25).
