Randwick Horse Race Could Be Replaced By Stand-Alone Gosford Saturday Meeting

Saturday's "lacklustre Randwick meeting with 61 runners, and a crowd of not many more," should -- "and most surely will -- be replaced next year by a stand-alone Gosford Saturday meeting," according to Ken Callander of the Sydney DAILY TELEGRAPH. Gosford had an "exciting meeting on Friday featuring three black-type races, the Gosford Cup, the Belle Of The Turf Stakes and the Takeover Target Stakes." There is "no reason not to have an exciting Gosford Cup meeting as a major attraction in January when the Central Coast is awash with holiday makers." It can "take racing to a new audience as well as provide good horses" for punters to bet on throughout the state on the "major punting day of the week." Stand-alone meetings are "already held at Scone and Hawkesbury and are a big success." Gosford has "better facilities and better grandstands than both Scone and Hawkesbury and a racetrack at least as good" (DAILY TELEGRAPH, 1/11).
