Olympic Notes: IOC Awards Rio 2016 Broadcast Rights In Cuba

The IOC announced that the Instituto Cubano de Radio y Televisión (ICRT) has been awarded the exclusive broadcast rights in Cuba for Rio 2016. The agreement also means that the IOC has now completed all its broadcast agreements for Rio 2016. ICRT, Cuba’s state broadcaster, has acquired the rights across all broadcast platforms, including free-to-air television, subscription TV, Internet and mobile phone in all languages (IOC). ... Sion, Switzerland "is set to launch a bid for the 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games." It is believed FC Sion Owner and President Christian Constantin "is leading the move for the canton of Valais capital." It is not clear, however, "how the Swiss public will react to the move" as a proposed bid to host the 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics in St. Moritz and Davos was rejected by a state referendum in March last year (INSIDE THE GAMES, 12/21). ... The Indian Olympic Association "rejected Boxing India's application for recognition as the national federation," with President N. Ramachandran saying that BI was "imposed" by the world body AIBA against the wishes of the IOA. Ramachandran said after the Annual General Body Meeting of the IOA "that it still recognises the erstwhile Indian Amateur Boxing Federation, whose affiliation was terminated by the AIBA" (PTI, 12/19).
