Facility Notes: Rome Mayor Says Construction Of AS Roma Stadium To Begin In Spring

Rome Mayor Ignazio Marino said that construction on AS Roma's stadium "could start in the spring." The Giallorossi's plans for a new stadium are "currently being discussed by Rome's city council, with politicians deciding whether the club will be granted planning permission." A member of the council had "previously declared that the plans would be approved by Christmas," and Marino on Thursday gave "his thoughts on the stadium project" (FOOTBALL ITALIA, 12/18). ... Inter Milan President Erick Thohir said that the Nerazzurri "are 'working hard' toward a new stadium." Speaking as he unveiled a new stadium for Major League Soccer side D.C. United, which he also owns, Thohir assured that "a new stadium for the Beneamata is in the works." He said, "The approval of our new stadium bill is the culmination of a huge amount of effort, which always pays off in life and in football" (FOOTBALL ITALIA, 12/18).
