Scottish Championship Side Hibernian Owner Close To Deal To Erase $9.9M Club Debt

Scottish Championship side Hibernian is “on the verge of striking a deal to wipe out” £8M ($9.9M) in club debt, according to Gavin Berry of the Scotland DAILY RECORD. The move will see Easter Road owner Tom Farmer “shell out a seven-figure sum himself” as part of the agreement. Club CEO Leeann Dempster said, “Discussions have taken place involving the club, HFC Holdings and the bank.” Kwik-Fit owner Farmer took over the Edinburgh outfit in ‘90 to “stave off the threat of a stunning merger with Hearts.” The bank deal comes at a time when “fans consortium BuyHibs are trying to raise cash” to launch a buyout (DAILY RECORD, 12/9).
