Premier League Could Be Set For Friday Night Games As TV Rights Battle Heats Up

Friday night football "could be heading to the Premier League," according to Bill Mills of the London MIRROR. There "have been suggestions that Sunday night could be an option," but TV companies favor Friday. The battle for the next set of TV rights "gets under way in the new year with Sky and BT set to smash the previous record" of £3B ($4.7B). The packages "are being put together and will be offered early next year." Interested parties "will then make their bids for new three-year deals" that start in '16. But while the TV giants are expected to "far exceed the previous deal," with some experts forecasting a £5B ($7.8B) deal, "they will want added value." That "could mean the number of televised live games going up from the current 154" (MIRROR, 11/22).
