Uruguay FA President Valdez Says He Will Declare Intention To Bid For 2030 World Cup

Uruguay FA President Wilmar Valdez will meet with FIFA President Sepp Blatter on Nov. 26, "when he will make official his country's intention to bid to host the World Cup" in '30, according to Carlos González Lucay of LA TERCERA. Uruguay will "recognize Argentina and Chile, in that order," as countries with which it is considering making a joint bid. Valdez said that conversations with Chilean Football Federation (ANFP) President Sergio Jadue "are already underway." Valdez: "The priority is with Argentina. In all ways, we believe it is positive that, as Chile also has its interest, there is a possibility that we could do this between the three countries. Jadue expressed to me Chile's intention to participate on this topic." For "many years, different ANFP administrations have considered the idea of hosting a World Cup, but this dream never became a declaration." Now the "subject seems different." Jadue is "relaunching this desire and believes there is a good chance to finalize it." Jadue: "I already expressed it a little before the World Cup: if we organize a very good U17 World Cup and a very good Copa América, it would show that we are capable when the World Cup returns to South America. It is evident that we have the potential to do this by ourselves or with another country within CONMEBOL. We are open to this" (LA TERCERA, 11/3).
