League Notes: AFL Side Essendon Given No Friday Night Matches During '15 Season

Australian Football League side Essendon has been handed "only two Friday night matches next season, and none in the opening six rounds, as Richmond emerged as the league's darling in the marquee timeslot." The Bombers "expressed disappointment in having their appearances on a Friday night slashed from six to two, while their number of Saturday night games has dipped from six to five" (THE AGE, 10/30). ... The Indian Sports Ministry on Wednesday issued "fresh warning" to National Sports Federations stating that players will be given government grants "only if they play for the country without reservation." In the case of "specific exigencies" which prevented the players from playing, the guideline "demanded it to be first verified by the concerned NSF before taking a final decision" (DECCAN HERALD, 10/29).
