Media Notes: Polish Ekstraklasa Launches Free App To Broadcast Matches

Poland's Ekstraklasa "launched a free app that will broadcast coverage of the matches as well as latest news and personalised updates from the league." The app "is available on IOS and Android devices." A joint venture of Onet.pl Group, Ringier Axel Springer Poland and Ekstraklasa S.A., the app "is a continuation of the internet project Ekstraklasa.tv that is being led by Onet Sport and Przegląd Sportowy" (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 10/24). ... Liverpool "announced that LFCTV is launching a new HD channel, boosting content and expanding its schedule to 24 hours a day." Launching Nov. 4, the new channel will launch on the Sky HD platform "and will be subscription only." The channel, which first launched in '07, "will feature a new-look interactive studio, regular live news bulletins from Melwood training ground every day, more behind the scenes access, exclusive interviews, features and documentaries" (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 10/24). ... ABC secured a deal to screen all of Australia's int'l football matches at January's Asian Cup live on free-to-air TV -- "plus November's glamour friendly against Japan in Osaka." A deal "was struck over the weekend between Football Federation Australia and existing rights-holder Fox Sports to ensure the tournament is broadcast to as many viewers as possible outside the pay television domain." In addition to broadcasting Australia's matches, "a nightly highlights show will screen on ABC at 10pm and it will also broadcast the quarter-final and semi-final matches on delay." In addition, the ABC "is already the tournament's official radio broadcaster" (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 10/26).
