Football Notes: Everton Fans Hit With Tear Gas Ahead Of Europa League Clash With Lille

EPL side Everton fans have been "targeted with tear gas fired by police during clashes in Lille's main square ahead of their Europa League match in the French city." Images have appeared on Twitter of fans of the Merseyside club "congregated in Grand Place square." Everton subsequently sent out a message to fans to "stay away from the area amid reports of a flare-up involving police" (BBC, 10/23). ... An Indonesian football fan was killed at a match on the main island of Java when "hundreds of angry supporters stormed the pitch and attacked vehicles outside the stadium, police said Thursday." Violence "erupted" during Wednesday's match between Persis and visiting Martapura FC in the city of Solo, with fans "mainly targeting police." Eight officers and six civilians were "also injured in the clashes, which started inside the stadium before moving outside, where an angry mob set a police motorbike alight and damaged cars and buses" (AFP, 10/23).

MANAGER'S TARGETED: The FA has charged one manager and asked for "observations" from another, after comments they made following Premier League matches this weekend. Crystal Palace Manager Neil Warnock has been charged by the FA for misconduct, while Swansea's Garry Monk has been "asked to respond after criticising a penalty decision following his club’s defeat against Stoke" (LONDON TIMES, 10/23). ... A fan of Paraguayan side Cerro Porteño "was shot and killed in Asunción" on Tuesday while watching his team play Argentine club Lanús on TV. In addition to the fan who was killed, "two others were wounded but were in stable condition" (DPA, 10/22).
