Football Notes: Hillsborough Disaster Inspector Accused Of Involvement In Cover-Up

A South Yorkshire police officer who was "allegedly involved in changing another officer's statement and worked for an internal evidence-gathering unit after the Hillsborough disaster has denied being 'a key figure in the cover-up' that allegedly followed." David Beal also told the "new inquest into the disaster that he was offended by the accusation that his inability to recollect conversations with officers afterwards amounted to him 'trying to cover up your cover-up'" (London GUARDIAN, 10/20). ... Arsenal will not face charges over flares "thrown on the pitch in their Champions League game with Galatasaray" after UEFA dropped disciplinary action. UEFA has fined Galatasaray £39,570 ($63,800) for its part in the disturbance (BBC, 10/20). ... FIFA said on Monday that the Nepal FA (ANFA) is implementing "corrective measures" amid allegations "from its own senior officials about embezzlement of funds." FIFA said that the Nepalese FA had been the subject of an "unsatisfactory" external audit in '12, when "unappropriated cash movements" were identified, and was "also targeted by an ethics committee investigation" in '13 (REUTERS, 10/20).
