Two Killed After Argentine First Division Match Between Rosario Central And Newell's

After Sunday's Argentine first division game between Rosario Central and Newell's, two men were killed in "separate football-related incidents," according to XINHUA. The killings occurred in Rosario, 300 km north of Buenos Aires. The incidents "involved the shooting death of a 39-year-old man and the stabbing death of a 22-year-old." Another eight fans were "admitted to different hospitals with serious injuries." Martin Acosta, 39, and his son were "celebrating the hometown team's win in the city's Belgrano district" around 6:30pm when a neighbor "reportedly angered by the ruckus fired a weapon several times, hitting Acosta in the back." The shooter "has been identified by the police, but remains at large." Lautaro Bova, 22, was walking with "other fellow fans in the Castellanos y Centeno part of the city" around 7pm when a group of men "reportedly sporting Newell's colors attacked, stabbing Bova in the chest." Police officers "arrested the 35-year-old assailant" (XINHUA, 10/20). CLARIN reported violence "broke out not in the stadium where Central beat Newell's, but in the Parque de la Independencia itself." Cars parked there, "in a zone to which only club members have access, suffered damage after the game." Fans also "congregated outside the home of Newell's President Guillermo Lorente and insulted him" (CLARIN, 10/19).

COACH RESIGNS EL PATAGÓNICO reported Newell's coach Gustavo Raggio "presented his resignation from his position after his team's loss" (EL PATAGÓNICO, 10/20).
