DIEGO MARADONA "has been involved in a scuffle outside a Croatian nightclub." He had reportedly been dancing with friends at the Revelin club in Dubrovnik, when fellow guests "took exception to his behaviour." As Maradona was leaving, he "was involved in an angry clash with one visitor filming the incident" (London DAILY MIRROR, 9/8). ... Football Federation Australia is closing in on its next national technical director, and ROMEO JOZAK "is in the running" to replace HAN BERGER. Jozak, a former Dinamo Zagreb youth academy director and Croatian federation technical director, "is one of two candidates on the shortlist for the position." The identity of the other candidate "is yet to be confirmed" (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 9/8). ... Football Federation Australia "is believed to have a short list of two, a local and an overseas contender, for the vacant position of Matildas coach." Either interim coach ALEN STAJCIC or former England women’s coach HOPE POWELL "will be handed the job when the head body announces its decision in the next week or two" (THE AUSTRALIAN, 9/9). ... Taiwanese CHING-KUO WU, "who failed in a bid to become president of the IOC last year, is to stand for a third term as head of the Amateur International Boxing Association (AIBA)." Wu "is credited with modernising amateur boxing, revamping scoring methods, instigating the launch of the AIBA Pro Boxing Competition, ditching head guards and bringing women's boxing into the Olympics" (REUTERS, 9/5).

NEW SIGNING: The No. 1 ranked female amateur golfer in the world, MINJEE LEE, "has signed with IMG for worldwide management and marketing representation." Lee "will make her professional debut via sponsor exemption at this week’s Evian Championship, the final major championship of the 2014 LPGA Tour season." A native of Perth, Australia, Lee "has held the top spot in the amateur rankings since February when she won the Women’s Victorian Open on the Australian Ladies Professional Golf (ALPG) Tour" (THE SPORTS CAMPUS, 9/8).
