League Notes: Gaelic Athletic Association, Gardaí To Investigate All-Ireland Replay

The Gaelic Athletic Association and the Gardaí police force are "set to investigate the ugly scenes which occurred in the closing stages of Saturday's All-Ireland semi-final replay between Kerry and Mayo." Angry Mayo fans "invaded the pitch following the final whistle" at the Gaelic Grounds, Limerick, forcing referee Cormac Reilly and his officials to "sprint to the dressing room" (IRISH INDEPENDENT, 9/1). ... Kent County Cricket Club has written to the England & Wales Cricket Board to "register dismay at gate-share arrangements in light of Warwickshire's cut-price ticketing policy" for the Royal London Cup semifinal at Edgbaston on Thursday. The county claimed that it will not just "leave them short-changed, but is also devaluing one of county cricket's biggest days." Kent CEO Jamie Clifford believes a "50-50 split of gate receipts would be more appropriate," especially as Warwickshire will charge only £10 ($17) for the game, "with members (of both clubs) and juniors allowed in free" (LONDON TIMES, 9/1). ... Australian Football League side Collingwood President Eddie McGuire "has revealed the Magpies have sought out soft-tissue experts" from the National Hockey League and college basketball programs in the U.S. in a "bid to end what he says has been a soft-tissue 'crisis.'" McGuire said that the Magpies were "determined to end the injury woes that  have hurt the club for three seasons." McGuire: "We have had experts on soft tissue injury in through the place for the best part of a month and a half. It's not as if it just jumped out at us in the last five minutes" (THE AGE, 9/1).
