Spanish Public Broadcaster RTVE To Shut Down Sports Channel Teledeporte Dec. 31

The close of Spanish public broadcaster RTVE's sports channel, Teledeporte, "is now a fact," according to LIBERTAD DIGITAL. TVE Dir José Ramón Díez announced that the channel "will be closed" on Dec. 31. He said, "Until that date, any measure could be taken and the Government is still yet to present a definitive plan on the digital division of the TDT." Díez "has also proposed a change in the financing system, which needs 'perfecting,'" and added, "It is not a matter of removing advertising, but of guaranteeing good management. RTVE needs a stable budget, through money from the public and through what is received from private businesses" (LIBERTAD DIGITAL, 8/28).
