Atlético Madrid Over LFP Limit On Roster Spending Ahead Of Monday Deadline

Atlético Madrid "will experience uncertainty until the market closes" on Monday "because currently, the club has spent more than" the amount permitted by the Spanish Football League (LFP), according to GOAL. An LFP regulation requires that "the annual sum spent on a roster" cannot exceed 70% of the club's revenue for that season. If Atlético is "unable to meet this requirement," it could face a sanction "ranging from a ban on signing players to possible relegation." To resolve the situation, "club execs are trying to trade various players to balance the accounts." Atlético is looking to sell Emiliano Insúa and Toby Alderweireld, and if a "good offer arrives" for Cristian Rodríguez, the club "will sell the Uruguayan as well." The club is permitted to spnd €50M ($66M) on its roster, but it currently has spent "closer to" €100M ($132M) (GOAL, 8/27).
