Former Australian athletics head coach Chris Wardlaw will "chair the review panel examining the ill-fated Australian track and field campaign at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games," according to the AAP. Chief among the panel's priorities "will be evaluating the actions of head coach Eric Hollingsworth, who was sent home from Scotland in disgrace" after "slamming" Olympic champion Sally Pearson on the eve of her 100m hurdles campaign. Athletics Australia High Performance Dir Simon Nathan was "also roundly criticised for fining Pearson, rising 800m star Alex Rowe and discus thrower Benn Harradine for skipping the start or all of the pre-Games camp in Gateshead, while acknowledging all three had made the right decision 'in a sporting sense.'" Wardlaw will be the "independent head of the review panel which also includes AA board members Anne Lord, Peter Bromley and Jan Swinhoe." The process is expected to take two months, with AA President David Grace saying "all members of the Commonwealth Games team would get the chance to air any grievances they may have with Hollingsworth" (AAP, 8/22).
