Football Notes: St. Petersburg Vice Governor Says Politics Will Not Affect Euro 2020 Bid

St. Petersburg Vice Governor Vasiliy Kichedzhi said that "the current political situation" will not affect the city's bid to host Euro 2020 matches. Kichedzi: "I'm sure the issue [of international political situation] will not affect St. Petersburg's bid. I repeat -- I cannot imagine what should happen for our bid not to be supported" (RIA NOVOSTI, 8/16). ... The Malawi FA (FAM) has slapped state broadcaster Malawi Broadcasting Corporation journalist Peter Fote with a "one year suspension in any football related activities after his 'acceptance' of guilt" for offering Benin technical information on "how they could beat Malawi." The FAM has warned Fote that "the ban will be extended if the broadcaster breaches any of the ban conditions" (NYASA TIMES, 8/14).
