Real Madrid's 2-0 Win Over Sevilla Sets UEFA Super Cup Viewership Record In Spain

The UEFA Super Cup on Tuesday night between La Liga sides Real Madrid and Sevilla, which Real won 2-0, attracted an audience of 4.8 million viewers on Spanish broadcaster TVE's La 1, according to the EP. The number translated to a 39.8% market share, making it the most-watched Super Cup in the competition's history. The audience peaked at 9:21pm with nearly 6 million viewers, a market share of 42.2% (EP, 8/13).

IN GERMANY: DWDL's Uwe Mantel reported German public broadcaster ZDF attracted 3.22 million viewers to its broadcast of the UEFA Super Cup. The number translated into a market share of 12%. In the target demographic 14-49, the game obtained a market share of 9.1%. Prior to the football coverage, ZDF showed the first day of competition of the European Athletics Championship. The coverage, which started shortly after 10am, was watched by an average of 780,000 viewers and had a market share of 11.6%. ZDF's afternoon coverage attracted 2.31 million viewers and recorded an 11% share starting at 6pm. In the target demographic, the track & field event obtained a market share of 6.1% in the afternoon and 4.3% in the morning (DWDL, 8/13).
