IPL Clubs Demand Reimbursements From Board Of Control For Cricket In India

The franchises of the Indian Premier League have asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India to "compensate for the expenses incurred" during the UAE leg of the IPL 7, according to Vijay Tagore of the MUMBAI MIRROR. All the franchises, "including Chennai Super Kings, have written to the BCCI/IPL authorities in this regard." The demands "vary from team to team and are believed to be ranging" from Rs 6 crore ($974,000) to Rs 30 crore ($4.9M). Chennai Super Kings have asked for a compensation of Rs 28 crore ($4.5M), having "reached that figure on the basis of their calculation" of Rs 4 crore ($649,000) for "every match they played outside their home ground." A CSK official "refused to be dragged into the discussion" but confirmed writing a letter to the BCCI. Delhi Daredevils CEO Hemant Dua also "confirmed writing to the IPL authorities and similarly hoped the issue will be resolved soon." One official at a "successful team" said, "We wrote to them some 10 days ago and we've not even received an acknowledgement. The promise to reimburse our expenses was made by BCCI president N. Srinivasan himself. It has been more than three months since the UAE leg was played." The teams have "listed out their losses on three counts." They have claimed "losses from sponsorship and ticketing revenue and quoted increased expenditure for playing in a costly place like UAE" (MUMBAI MIRROR, 8/9).
