Chinese Sports Organizations, Teams Donate To Yunnan Earthquake Victims

Chinese sports organizations "offered help" to the victims of a 6.5-magnitude earthquake that hit Ludian county in Southwest China's Yunnan Province, according to the GLOBAL TIMES. All Chinese FA games this week "will see players, coaches, referees and fans pay a one-­minute silent tribute to the victims." Two clubs "offered more for ­Ludian." China League One club Qingdao Jonoon decided to make its Chinese FA Cup game against ­Jiangsu Sainty on Wednesday "a charity event." Donations "will be ­taken before the game starts and all the ticket revenue from the match will be donated." League Two side Sichuan Longfor Football Club, a team based in Santai county which was hard-hit in the '08 Wenchuan earthquake, "will offer free tickets for the game against Mei­xian Juncheng Hakka at the weekend to anyone who donates to Ludian." Evergrande Group, the major sponsor of Chinese Super League leaders Guangzhou Evergrande, donated 10M yuan ($1.62M) and 2 million bottles "of its Evergrande Spring water through China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation" (GLOBAL TIMES, 8/6).
