Halting Order Reportedly Preempts Real President From Naming Bernabéu Sponsor

The Madrid High Court of Justice's (TSJM) decision to "provisionally halt" the remodeling project for Real Madrid's Santiago Bernabéu "meant a hard blow" for Real Madrid President Florentino Pérez, according to Manel Bruña of MUNDO DEPORTIVO. The decision has reportedly "prevented him from being able to reveal the new sponsor of the stadium." Spanish website Vozpópuli reported that Pérez had reached an agreement with Emirates airlines, which already sponsors the club's shirts. Vozpópuli reported that Emirates had agreed to provide €160M ($215M) to sponsor the start of the renovation work on a project with a cost the club believes will reach €400M ($540M). Due to the TSJM's decision, "everything is stopped," including the topic of the stadium sponsor, which Vozpópuli reported "Real Madrid was waiting to make public until the conclusion of Ramadan" (MUNDO DEPORTIVO, 8/4).
