Former Bid Official Cho Yang-Ho Nominated As New Head Of PyeongChang Games

Sources said that Cho Yang-ho, a corporate exec who led PyeongChang's successful bid to host the 2018 Winter Games, "has been nominated to be the top organizer of the event," according to YONHAP. Cho, chairman of Hanjin Group, "is in line to replace former chief organizer Kim Jin-sun, who resigned on Monday, citing the need for new leadership for PyeongChang." The new chief organizer "will be elected at a general congress of PyeongChang's organizing committee." No date "has been set for the meeting," but sources said that "it will likely be held on Friday." Cho, who has been the president of the Korea Table Tennis Association since '08 and the VP of the Asian Table Tennis Union since '09, is also a VP of the Korean Olympic Committee (YONHAP, 7/27).
