Croatian Side HNK Rijeka Unveils Plans For New 14,000-Seat Kantrida Stadium

Croatian football club HNK Rijeka has unveiled the design of its new stadium, with "works on the 14,000-seat facility" expected to begin by the end of '14, with completion of the new Kantrida stadium in '16, according to Jaroslaw Adamowski of INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL. HNK Rijeka CEO Damir Miskovic said, "The Kantrida is celebrating its 100th anniversary. Everything must come to its end, and a new stadium is inevitable." The cost of the "planned investment in the new stadium" was not disclosed. The contract for the stadium design was "awarded to Italian architect Gino Zavanella whose portfolio includes the stadiums of Italy's Palermo, Juventus Turin, as well as Bayern Munich." The new Kantrida will "comply with UEFA Category 4 standards" (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 7/23).
